Hedgehog cam - Night of 5.6.2017
OK……Slightly different format for my blog today. This was a rescue mission - Operation Jo! haha
What I think is a female hedgehog, that I happened to name ‘Jo’, has been showing signs of a bad leg on the last few #hogblogs I’ve filmed. So, last night, from 9.30 until approx. 1.20am, I sat outside looking for her. She was the second hedgehog that I captured (the first being a slightly larger male).
She spent the night in a plastic case in my garage, with towels, food and water, before I properly viewed her this morning.
The hedgehog was then taken to a local vet, to be gassed down and be given an X-ray. She’ll then be picked up by the local hedgehog rescue (Irene Thomson) this afternoon, and taken away for rehab. Once she has a clean bill of health, ‘Jo’ be returning to me again for release back into the wild.
A long night sat in the rain, but a wonderful experience to be able to help an injured wild hedgehog.
Also, whilst I was sat in the late dusk light a bat flew right passed my face! Which was incredible….. So utterly silent, and yet so very close!
Anyway... Time for a rest, I think! It was a long night, followed by an early start to the day to check her and deliver her to the vets……but worth every moment!!!!
I’ll keep you all posted...
Getting warm in the evenings now. Hedgehogs will need fresh water. Put a bowl out! - they'll really appreciate it :)
As I'm sure you're aware, the UK hedgehog needs our help. Lost of habitat, including clean tidy gardens, less roadside hedgerows, and of course more and more development - meaning less green spaces, are all hitting our much loved little gardeners friend, the hedgehog, hard.
Why not try and do your own little bit for them. It's easy........cut an access hole in the bottom of a fence, leave a little water out, even just let a corner of your garden get messy. It all helps :)
My nightly offerings: 'Spikes' Semi-moist hedgehog food, dried mealworm, peanuts and of course a fresh bowl of water :)
Filmed with a Spypoint BF10-HD IR wildlife (modified) trail cam
Hope you enjoy the short clip!
