After lots of investigation up and down a local waterway, and then having spent days sat rigidly still, the third day of hiding beneath all my camo gear paid off…I finally got my first image of a passing kingfisher at my location. The brief encounter took less than 15 seconds, out of which I managed to pull a handful images that I was happy with – and well worth the hard work!
Kingfishers are small unmistakable bright blue and orange birds of slow moving or still water. They fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water's surface. You’ll quite often hear them before seeing them. They have a high pitch whistle which is quite unmistakable.
A stunning little bird, and one that I intend to turn into a project capturing their life on the waterway.
I’ll hopefully be adding to this blog periodically, with luck ! :)
